Welcome to the Sakura Matsuri (Cherry Blossom Festival). This year our festival is filled with great delights - wonderful performances, free events, and lots of fun - as well as workshops, master classes and informative demonstrations.
It is a special year for us, one in which we have focused on the Sakura Matsuri mission not only to bring nationally and internationally renowned artists into our midst, but to give back to the community through free events and community partnerships designed to showcase local artists.
The Sakura Matsuri is set to enrapture festival lovers once again. Our venue will leave you fascinated, captivated and enthralled. With performances ranging from classic to contemporary, traditional to avant-garde, each act will inspire you to greater heights.
Sakura Matsuri (Cherry Blossom Festival) Brooklyn Botanic Garden's cherry trees flower in spring every year. To celebrate the new flowers and the new season, New York's Japanese community gathers to dance to the sound of flutes and Taiko drumming, enjoy Japanese classical dance and folk music, tea ceremonies and traditional food.
The cherry blossom is the national flower in Japan, where it grows wild throughout the country as well as being widely cultivated in cities. It is believed to symbolize the life of the samurai which, like the flower, is short-lived. The beauty of this Japanese icon is well represented, with more than 200 trees of 42 varieties blooming in different parts of the garden.
